Our grandfather lied about his age and name to join the Marines in 1901. You have to be 21 to enlist without your parents approval which he did not have. He joined under the assumed name of Thomas Bernard Walters. Our grandfather married Rita Ulloa Aguon Aug 22, 1903 in Guam while in the Marines. They had 1 child: Joseph Aguon Walters, 1904-1981. Our grandfather later married our grandmother, Maud Sayers, on Feb 26, 1912. They had 4 children, Roy Gardner Sayers, 1911-1993, Daniel Herbert Sayers, 1912-1984, Ruth Sayers, 1914-1915, and Janet Leona Sayers, 1919-1994.
