Mrs. Ada E. (Lamphere) Laymon passed away at her home on Mill Street, Monday evening, death being due to creeping paralysis. She had been in poor health since April, but gradually grew worse until the end, despite all medical aid. Funeral services were held this morning at ten o'clock at the residence on Mill Street, the Eastern Star having charge, she having been a devoted member of that organization. The bereaved children left with her body for Gilboa, NY, where it will be interred at its final resting place beside her husband, Charles O. Laymon, for many years editor and owner of the Port Allegany Reporter.
Ada E. Lamphere was born at Conesville, NY, December 5, 1867, being 57 years of age at the time of her death. She was married in March 1886 to C. O. Laymon, who was at the time editor of the Gilboa Monitor. In 1888 she moved to Roxbury, where Mr. Laymon had purchased the Roxbury Times. They came to Port Allegany in February 1891, when Mr. Laymon, having sold the Roxbury Times, purchased the Port Allegany Reporter. They remained here until 1896, when the Reporter was sold to Will Lillibridge and Mrs. Belle Lauer. They moved at that time to Hardwick, Vt, where he purchased the Hardwick Gazette, which Mr. Laymon conducted for a number of years. In 1889 they returned here, Mr. Laymon, again taking charge of the Reporter, which he conducted until his death in 1918.
She leaves to mourn her death her children, Mrs. L. Sherman Green of Gainesville, Fla.; Mr. S. Randall Laymon of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs Harry P. Kurtz of Port Allegany and Mrs. M. A. Wood of New Castle, Ind. Mrs. Laymon was a woman of sterling qualities, a beautiful character and sweet disposition. She was a loving mother and was highly respected and loved by all who knew her. She was a member of the Eastern Star organization and of the Methodist Church of this place. She will be greatly missed be her large circle of friends, who extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
