Patricia A. Waterbury Nelis 67, of Indianapolis, passed away March 12, 2005. She was born August 21, 1937 in Indianapolis. She was a police officer for the Indianapolis Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 1983. She was among one of the first women on the police department and was the first women Marksman for the IPD. After retiring, she worked security for Indianapolis Public Schools for several years and worked the switchboard for the 911 Dispatch. She was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Police. Survivors include her daughters, Deb Nelis and Beth Anne (PFC. Aaron) Hiatt, four grandchildren, Ashley and Nickolas George, Bryan and Ridge Wilbur. A prayer service will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at G.H. Herrmann Madison Ave. Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave. followed by 10 a.m. Mass at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
