Gerald "Wayne" Mitchell, of Eureka, died at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita on Thursday, September 06, 2007, at the age of 79.
He was born in Eureka on May 20, 1928, the son of Forrest Roland and Margaret (Nokes) Mitchell. He was raised in Eureka and attended Eureka schools.
On January 4, 1951, Wayne was united in marriage to Bonnie Larcom in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They made their home in Eureka where they farmed and he was a heavy equipment operator for Greenwood County. He retired from the county in 1978.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home, three sons, Danny Mitchell of Mead, Nebraska, and Derald and Tim Mitchell both of Eureka, one daughter, Karen Custer of Eureka, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Margaret Brooks of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 10, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his name to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
