According to the marriage license application for Rebecca Annie Oakes to marry George Tidwell Edmkndson, Becky's marriage to Arthur Clifford Oakes ended in divorce in Fulton County, Georgia, in 1914 (for non-support). Arthur left Becky after she told him they were going to have a child. Arthur never returned. He did, however, mail her a postcard saying he was leaving.
Becky later married again on Oct 1, 1927. The marriage license was issued in Fulton County, Georgia, ln Sep 29, 1927. She married George Tidwell "Doc" Edmondson. He had been previously widowed from his marriage to Ida C Harris (Ida C Harris Edmondson is buried in this same cemetery). On the marriage license application, he gave Mar 17, 1867, as his birthdate but his tombstone shows 1866.
Becky only had one child, Homer Oakes,born in Nov, 1910.
When Becky died, out of respect for Homer, Mr. Edmondson did not put Edmondson are part of her name on the FRONT of the headstone. He put Edmondson on the TOP of the headstone and he had her name put as Rebecca A. Simpkins Oakes, wife of G. T. Edmondson, put on the FRONT of the stone. Mr Edmondson is also buried in this cemetery.
Homer was in the military and came home for her funeral. She had died on Christmas Day in 1934.
