Sister Esther Marie Werth
CONCORDIA — Sister Esther Marie Werth, 93, Concordia, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at St. Mary's Convent, Concordia. Sister Esther Marie was born Ludovina Werth on April 23, 1903, at Schoenchen. She was received into the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph on April 13, 1921, and received her religious name. She made first vows Aug. 15, 1923, and final vows Aug. 15, 1926. She taught in parochial grade and high schools staffed by the Congregation in the Diocese of Salina at Vincent, Clyde, St. Peter, Pfeifer, Clyde and Salina's Sacred Heart. She retired in 1982 and lived at Medaille Center in Salina until 1985 when she moved to St. Mary's Convent.
Survivors include two half brothers, Joseph Steinbock of LaPorte, Colo., and Frank Reichert of Hays; a half sister, Barbara Reichert of Salina; and a stepsister, Dorothy Kozlowski of Sacramento, Calif.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Nazareth Convent Chapel, the Rev. Henry Kieffer officiating. Burial will be in Convent Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund or Apostolic Mission Fund. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. Sixth, Box 606, Concordia 66901, is handling arrangements.
