Karrol Ingvald Gandrud was the third child of Kari (Dahlen)
Gandrud and Albert Engebret Gandrud of rural Detroit Lakes,
Minnesota, a dairy farming family in Becker County. He
attended rural schools and graduated from Crookston, Mn.
Agricultural College before attending Moorhead State
Teachers College at Moorhead, Mn. He worked as a cream
hauler for the Detroit Lakes Cooperative Creamery before
entering into business with Surge milking machines.
He married Luella Elizabeth Meyer of Luce, Minnesota
in January of 1937 at Park Rapids, Mn. To this marriage
were born three girls: Krista Linnea; Donna Corrine;
and Gileen Susan. Kelly and Luella made their home
at Route #2 Detroit Lakes, Mn. for more than 40 years.
Kelly was a volunteer fireman for the city of Detroit Lakes
and was a member of the Elk's Club and First Lutheran
church where he served on various church committees.
He was a popular and well regarded small businessman
in Becker County and was well known in the community.
He died of lung cancer and complications from lung
surgery at Dakota Hospital in Fargo, N.D. at the
age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife Luella
who now resides at Lincoln Park Assisted Living in
Detroit Lakes, Mn.
