Mr. Charles Foster Riddell, Sr. ("Mr.Charlie"), 84, of Canton, MS died August 11, 2012 at home.

Mr. Charlie was born June 6, 1928 in Canton, MS where he lived all his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas H. Riddell, Sr. and Evelyn Smith Riddell, his brother Thomas H. Riddell Jr. and his sister Betty Sue Riddell Presley.

Mr. Charlie was a farmer and ginner for over 50 years, retiring in 2000.

He was active in state and local politics. He served as President of both the Canton Public School Board, and later, the Canton Academy School Board. He was also chairman of the Mississippi State Penitentiary Board for several years.

He was a very generous man to all who knew him. He dedicated much of his life to mentoring young farmers. During his farming years, he could often be found in the early morning behind his desk at the Gin dispensing sage advice. He was also well known by his friends and family for his love of practical jokes. Over the years, the family got used to hearing story after story from many individuals of how Mr. Charlie helped them in a time of need. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy Ann Stokes Riddell and his children Robert W. Riddell (Susan), Diane Riddell Watts (Joe), Charles F. Riddell Jr. and J. Frazier Riddell (Susan).

He is also survived by his grandchildren Robin Riddell, Kimberly Pratt (Rickey), Allison Townsend (Dave), Cindy Penn (Chad), Erin Kice (Sean), Sarah Sterling (Tim), Timothy Abston (Lizzy), Alice C. Herndon (Drew), Charles Riddell, Evan Riddell, and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 12 from 3 - 6 pm at Breeland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 12 noon on Monday at the funeral home chapel with burial in the Canton Cemetery.
