John L. Mitchell, 81, Crystal Lake, died Tuesday at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.

He was born May 11, 1901, in Crittenden, Ky, the son of Frank and Alice (Crigler) Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was a resident of Louisville, KY, until moving to Crystal Lake in February 1982. He was employed by the Fischer Packing Co., Louisville, Ky, as a controller for many years before retiring in 1966. He was a veteran of World War I where he served in the Navy.

Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Crescent Hill United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky. He was former member of the Kentucky National Guard and the American Legion and a former member of the National Meat Institutes Accounting Committee.

Surviving are his wife, Martha (Adams) Mitchell; one daughter, Mrs. G.W. Joanne Cochran of St. Albans, W. Va.; two sons, Jefferson of Crystal Lake and John L. Jr. of New York, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and brother Frank Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky. Interment will be in the Florence Cemetery, Florence, Ky.
