Mrs. John Yench, 97, of Rockwood, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital,
Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Mittnacht Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek.
The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Mrs. Yench, nee Theresa Sladkey, was born Sept. 23, 1871, at Cooperstown,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matt Sladkey. She was educated in townships
schools, was employed at Chicago and when she returned to Manitowoc, worked
as a cook at the Williams House hotel. She was educated in township in 1895,
and the couple farmed in Milladore, Wood County, for three years, and in
Manitowoc and Cooperstown. (sic-1 or 2 lines appear to have been missed by
the newspaper linotypist). Mr. Yench died in 1938. Mrs. Yench lived with her
son Matt, at Dousman after her husband’s death, and the past eight years
with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Adeline) Meyer of
Rockwood.
Survivors besides the daughter and son, include another son, John, of Pewaukee;
14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. A son preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday where at 8 p.m. the
Rosary will be recited.
