Alvin J. (Al) Titera, age 85, of 1702 Cherry Road, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, April 9, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2004, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Revs. Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Alvin was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Francis Creek, son of the late Henry and Anna Hostak Titera. Alvin was a 1937 graduate of Lincoln High School. On Sept. 6, 1942, Alvin was married to Ethel Fandrick at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Engadine, Mich. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater from Dec. 29, 1942 until Jan. 20, 1946, receiving two Bronze Battle Stars. Al owned and operated Al Titera's Barbershop on South 10th Street until 1974 and then retired in 1984 from the Manitowoc Public School System. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, charter member of AMVETS Post #23 of Manitowoc, Drews-Bleser American Legion Post #88 of Manitowoc, and for more than 40 years, was a member of the Manitowoc Marine Band. Survivors include his wife: Ethel, Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law: Karen (Joe) Korlesky, Manitowoc; Janice (Robert) Tomchek, Two Rivers; five grandchildren: Jon (Jodi) Korlesky; Mark Tomchek and his special friend, Beth; Amy (Andy) Marks; Becky (Keith) Gilbert; Laura Tomchek; six great-grandchildren: Samantha Gilbert, Kailey Gilbert, Nicholas Meola, Justin Gilbert, Ryan Tomchek, Amanda Korlesky; one sister, three brothers-in-law and three-sisters-in-law: Julia (Arnold) Fandrick, Manitowoc; Jack Elliott, Manitowoc; Lou (Ellen) Fandrick, Manitowoc; Violet Schroeder, Engadine, Mich.; Lucille Adler, Newberry, Mich. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by one brother: Clarence Titera; and one sister: Evelyn Elliott. Relatives and friends may call at the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday, April 12, 2004 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the family.
