Josephine's achievements were many in the days when women's ambitions were rarely publicly recognized. For many years she was the assistant postmaster in Manitowoc. She retired and lived in the old Sieker homestead. Josephine adopted a young girl, Jane. The Sieker room at Manitowoc Hospital was furnished through the generosity of Josephine; and it was at her instigation that "perpetual care" is taken at Grandfather Sieker's lot.
