Wilhelm Schroeter, one of the oldest and best-known settlers of Town Newton,
died last Saturday evening. Mr. Schroeter, who was born 06 June 1819 in the
Prussian Province of Saxony, came to America in 1848 and settled in Town Newton
which was then a wilderness. In 1849 he married Miss Friederike Wernecke,
who preceded him in death 4 years ago. A few years ago he turned over his farm,
which he had cleared from the forest, to his son Wm. H. Schroeter, but he
continued to reside there. Another son is Carl W. Schroeter, the well-known
local baker. In addition to these 2 sons he is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Amalie
Reinhart, and Miss Minnie Schroeter, both residents of Town Newton. The
funeral was held yesterday afternoon.
