From Der Nord Westen, 16 May 1901:
On Thurs. morning last week a telegram arrived here advising that
Hermann Schroeder in Seattle had died following an appendix operation.
The deceased, a son of South 12th St. resident W. Schroeder, was born
here 34 yrs. ago. He worked as a machinist for many years in the pumping
station of the Milwaukee water works, but went to the Klondike 3 yrs. ago
where he didn’t have much luck and resettled in Seattle. 6 yrs. ago he
married Miss Ida Dueno, daughter of our Fire Chief August Dueno, which
marriage produced one son. Mrs. Schroeder was so stricken by the news of
her husband’s unanticipated death that she lies quite ill, from which she
will hopefully recover. The body was shipped here and arrived yesterday.
The funeral will be held this afternoon.

Mrs. Ida Schroeder, who came here from Seattle Wash., a few
days ago accompanying the remains of her husband for burial,
will return to her home in the West, and took her departure
Monday. Her sister, Mrs. Pautz, who was here to attend the
funeral, accompanied her to Milwaukee and Mrs. Doerstenberger,
of Milwaukee and Miss Emma Matthews, of St. Paul were also
of the party. Mrs. Schroeder is a daughter of Fire Chief
August Dueno.
