Herbert Schroeder, 62, Manitowoc Rapids, died Tuesday night at Holy Family
Hospital, where he had been taken earlier in the day. Funeral service will be
held at 2 p.m. from Mitttnacht Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Schroeder was born April 12, 1894 in Manitowoc, the son of the late John and
Marie Raeuber Schroeder. His father was the former mayor of Manitowoc in the
early 1920's. He was a graduate of the old Washing High school and attended the
University of Wisconsin at Madison. During WWI he was a Sergeant in Company F
of the National Guard and served in Germany and France. After the war he became
associated with his father in Manitowoc Building Supply Company, remaining until
1938 when he was employed by Manitowoc Engineering Corp as a machinist.
He married Gertude Toebe at Manitowoc on June 14, 1924. She survives with four
sons; John, Madison, Donald, Manitowoc Rapids, Robert, Manitowoc and Pvt.
Edward of Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri. A daughters, Mrs. Everett Kaston of
Mischicot. Two brothers, Edward H. of Washington D. C. and Alfred of Maintowoc
and two sisters; Mrs. Maurice Thopson of Baltimore and Mrs. Harold Mass of
Freeburg, Ill. and five Grandchildren.
