CATHERINE O. SCHROEDER (d. 2005)

Catherine O. Schroeder, formerly of 1900 Kellner St., and now a resident of Harmony West, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County. Catherine was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Fred and Anna Bertram Ogie. She married Leland C. Schroeder on Dec. 1, 1934 in Milwaukee and moved to Manitowoc in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1993. She received her bachelor s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a major in teaching of the deaf. She taught deaf children and lip reading to adults of the League for the Hard of Hearing and was a training teacher for the University of Wisconsin at the Paul Binner School for the Deaf in Milwaukee. She also attended Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Silver Lake College. She taught at both Sacred Heart and Holy Innocents schools. She was certified as a librarian in 1967 and served as a school librarian in the Mishicot School District until her retirement. Catherine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Women s Club, Manitowoc and Wisconsin Retired Educators Association, life member of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Alumni Association, Elks Ladies Auxiliary and Wisconsin Retired Telephone Pioneers Auxiliary. Catherine also was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society, Friends of the Library and Holy Family Memorial Hospital. Survivors include three sons, two daughters, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Children are: Lee (Mary Ann) Schroeder, Washington, D.C., and their children: Sarah (Stewart), T. Benjamin and Rachel (Michael); Lynn (Paul) Theisen, Manitowoc, and their children: Timothy (Karen), Thomas and Anthony (Traci); Susan (Charles) Munkwitz, Waukesha, and their children: Melissa, Nicole (Fred), Charles (Irma) and Lindsey; Richard (Linda) Schroeder, Cleveland, and their children: Alyssa and Andrew; Steven (Nina) Schroeder, Glencoe, Ill., and their children: William, John, Peter and Lily; and great-grandchildren: Michael, Logan, Kate, Max, Nora and Dane. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 702 State St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Dave Hoffman will officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery following the services. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roncalli High School or the donor s choice. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
