Jeannette Tyler (Huson) Humphreys was daughter of Nelson Huson, who died at the age of 20, and Alzada H. Truesdell. After her father's death, she and her mother lived with his parents until Alzada remarried. Although it's uncertain, it appears as though she continued to live with her grandparents, Elijah and Alzada (Tyler) Huson, in Lake County, Illinois, and/or other relatives in Elgin, Illinois. According to her obituary, she was educated at the Elgin Academy.

By 1860, she had returned to Starkey, Yates County, New York. The census of that year shows her living with her mother and step-father, William E. Gabriel. In 1861 she married John Joseph Humphreys, who worked on a farm near her mother and step-father's farm.

Jeannette was the mother of four children, Alice Louise, Arthur, John B., and Mary A. Three of the children lived to an old age, but Mary died "in young womanhood" before 1900.

Before her husband's death on 7 Nov 1879, the family lived in Yates and Schuler counties, New York and Elgin, Kane County, Illinois. She eventually migrated to Industry Township, Phelps County, Nebraska, in 1884 to live with her daughter, Alice Louise, and son-in-law, John Martin Polhemus.

Jeanette took out a homestead, next to the young couple's homesteaded property. Even though she filed for the homestead, she lived with the couple. When they retired from farming, she moved with them to Holdrege.

Jeannette passed away at the age of almost 84. She is buried in the Polhemus family plot.
