EDWARD G. PILGER

Edward G. Pilger, 78, of 801 N. 20th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday at his home
following an illness of three months.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc, with the Rev. Vernon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born July 24, 1883, in the Town of Gibson, son of the late Adolph and
Rose Skwor Pilger. He married Lillian A. Strande dec. 21, 1911, at Manitowoc.
He was a pioneer painter of the Manitowoc area. He worked at Milwaukee for
Milwaukee Associates Artists from 1921 to 1917 after which time the family
returned to Manitowoc. He was a past master of the Manitowoc Masonic Club and
50-year member, a member of the Eastern Star, member of the First Lutheran
Church and the Brotherhood of the church, past president of the Manitowoc
Painters and Decorator Contractors, member of the Manitowoc Master builders,
member of the Manitowoc Fish and Game and a member of the Izaak Walton League
of America. He served as alderman from the City of Manitowoc’s old sixth ward
from 1932 to 1936.
Among survivors are his wife; a son, Myrone of Fullerton, Calif., a daughter,
Mrs. Kurth R. Grainger of Manitowc; two sisters, Mrs. L. W. Tripler of Manitowoc
and Mrs. Anna Pilger Dewey of Chicago; six grandchildren and two great grand-
children.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funera. Home,
Manitowoc, until 11 a.m. Thursday when the casket will be moved to the church
where the body will lie in state until time of service.
The family has requested memorials to the First Lutheran Church.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
