Lucile Lavern Heftie, the daughter of Delbert Hector and Grace Georgia (Palmer) Lyon, was born on the family farm near Seward, Nebraska on September 7, 1909 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on August 14, 2001, at the age of 91 years.

She grew up on Maple Side Farm, which her grandfather had homesteaded. Lucile attended rural school and Seward High School. She then stayed at home to help her mother on the farm after her father passed away. Lucile was the only one at home who had a drivers license.

Lucile was united in marriage to Arthur Peter Heftie on January 21, 1937 at her parents' home in Seward. When they were first married they farmed the original "Stockham" farm northeast of Stockham. In 1948, they purchased a farm southwest of Stockham and lived there until she and Arthur retired and moved to Aurora in 1965. Arthur passed away on January 14, 1990.

Lucile was a member of the United Methodist Church. She raised six children and helped Art with the farm work. Lucile helped Art with purebred Chester White Hogs and many breeds of show chickens. She helped with 4-H and County Fair exhibits as her children grew up.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Alice Swanstrom and Bernice Lyon, brother, Charles Lyon, daughter-in-law, Arlyce Heftie and one grandson, Joshua Peter Heftie.
