DEATH CLAIMS C.J. HAASE, WELL KNOWN RESIDENT
Death Comes at Time He Was Thought to Be Recovering
Charles J. Haase, 1314 South Ninth street, a resident of this city
for more than fifty-five years who has been employed at the Schuette
Bros. store the past 33 years, died suddenly at the Holy Family
hospital at 1:00 o'clock this morning, following an operation for
appendicitis, complications resulting which caused his death after
relatives believed that he was well on the road to recovery. Mr. Haase
was operated on about three weeks ago, and later, suffered from a severe
attack of rheumatism and pneumonia developed but relatives and friends
believed yesterday that he would be able to return to his home on Sunday.
He was taken suddenly ill during the night, death coming shortly after.
Born Here in 1868
Mr. Haase was born in this city on June 7, 1868 and has always resided
here, having been an active worker in the Evangelical Lutheran church the
past twenty years. He was married thirty-three years ago to Miss Bertha
Kroll, who with one daughter Mrs. William H. Wilde, his mother Mrs. John
Hasse (sic) and five sisters, Mrs. Henry Melhsner, Mrs. George Koebke and
Mrs. Richard Balge of this city and Mrs. Minnie Berg and Mrs. Emma Clare
of Milwaukee, survive.
Mr. Haase was one of the best known residents of this city, and for more
than thirty years was foreman of the carpet department of the Schuette
department store.
Funeral Saturday
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the
home, 1314 South Ninth street, and burial will take place at Evergreen
cemetery. The Rev. Karl Machmiller will officiate at the services both at
the home and at the cemetery.
