Henry J. Gerpheide, an eminent attorney, died yesterday following a long
illness with consumption. His funeral will be held Sat. afternoon.

From the Files of the Pilot - Twenty-five years ago - (1899)
Henry J. Gerphiede(sic) died on Wednesday last of consumption of the lungs. He
had been in poor health for some time. He was 46 years old and was born in this
city. He was an unusually bright man, quick to learn and able to retain. He early
studied law and was admitted to the bar when quite a young man. He practiced for
several years in Fond du Lac and then moved to Chicago. He came here about a year
ago. He was married in Fond du lac to Miss Perkins. Henry was loyal to his friends
and with his brilliancy he made friends readily.

The last sad rites over the remains of the late Henry J. Gerpheide
were held at the late home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. A large
concourse of friends had assembled to pay the last tribute to the
memory of the departed and the floral tributes were numerous and
beautiful. Rev. Rankin, of the Presbyterian church, officiated and
spoke words of consolation to the sorrowing relatives. The interment
was at Evergreen and the last offices for the dead were performed
by six of his law associates. They were Emil Baensch, Isaac Craite,
Edward Nash. E.S. Schenian, John Chloupek, Edward Schmitz.
