Mrs. Catherine Cavanaugh, 92, nee Catherine Welch (above), of route 1, Manitowoc,
died early Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Jole, where
she had been living since 1938.
Services will be held at the Pfeffer funeral home, Manitowoc, at 9 a.m. Tuesday
and at 9:30 at St. Boniface Catholic church. The Rev. Alfred Pritzl will offic-
iate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Cavanaugh was born in Janesville in 1857 and came to Manitowoc in 18__ when
she was married to Mathew Cavanaugh. They lived on a farm near Maple Grove and
in Reedsville for 15 years. The couple then moved to Manitowoc where they resided
for 32 years, and following Mr. Cavanaugh’s death in 1938, Mrs. Cavanaugh went to
live with her daughter, Mrs. Jole.
Survivors are nine daughters, Mrs. Elmer Jole of route 1, Manitowoc, Mrs. Emil
Behnke, Mrs. Dewey Elfner and Mrs. John Pleuss Sr., of Manitowoc, Mrs. Ben Kings
of route 1, Reedsville, Mrs. Frank Lefky of Greenleaf, Mrs. Carl Tollstadius of
Chicago and Mrs. A. B. Smith of Milwaukee; son, Elmer of Los Angeles; 15 grand-
children and 18 great grandchildren. Three daughters and two sons preceded their
mother in death.
Mrs. Cavanaugh was a member of the St. Ann Altar society of St. Boniface Catholic
church. Friends may call at the Pfeffer funeral home after 6 p.m. Sunday where the
rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday.
