Obituary Notice

Richard Don Henington, 82, lost his battle from cancer on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Operation Kindness in honor of Richard Henington at [email protected]. Richard Don Henington was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Sweetwater to Oland Don and Louise Henington. He was a resident of Fort Worth for most of his life. He moved to Burleson in 1986. Richard married his first wife, Cora Mae Geer, in May 1951. The day after his honeymoon he was shipped off to the Korean War. Richard and Cokie were married for 43 years until she died from cancer in 1994. He served his country in the Korean War from 1951 to late 1952. He was in the 25th Infantry Artillery Division. He was the fire direction coordinator and just before his discharge he was moved to intelligence. In 1963, Richard and Cokie adopted a little girl, Cathleen. His passion was woodworking and furniture finishing. It was not just a job, he truly was an artist. His work with furniture began with the Mathis Brothers Furniture Company from 1946 to 1950. After serving his country, he worked for A Brandt Ranch Oak Furniture Company from 1953 to 1985. He was self employed for a couple of years as a furniture refinisher then in 1987 he worked for Robert Shaw Mfg. Company. He tried to retire several times, but his talent was unmatched, leaving his status with Robert Shaw current until his death. Richard married his girlfriend, Helen Francis "Fran" Stephens, of five years on March 1, 2002. Richard and Fran were married for 10 years. Richard was a wonderful father and a loving husband. He loved music and loved to dance. He also loved animals and had several cats and dogs over the years. Richard was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors: His wife, Fran; daughter, Cathleen Langer and husband, Andy Langer; grandson, Brandon Langer; stepgranddaughters, Amy Kimlinger and Kari Miller; brother, Bill Henington; sisters, Ruthie Tucker and Marie Deaton.
