LOTTIE D (STARK/CRAMER) SAUNDERS - FLAKE
Lottie, sometimes known as Lotta, was the only child born to Sarah Ellen (Mannon) and George Stark. She was born on the family farm on June 2, 1860 at Eliza Creek, located in New Boston Township, Mercer County, IL.

Her mother was the only child of Samuel Rice Mannon and his first wife, Rebecca Long. Rebecca died when Sarah was only four months old and she was raised by her grandfather, Aaron Mannon. Lottie's father George, was the son of Rev. John Stark of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Her parents were married for about ten years, then seperated and divorced. Both remarried, her father to a woman named Emma Crowford and her mother married W. James "Jim" Barringer. Jim was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

After her parents seperation, Lottie went to live with her Aunt Zerilda Mannon and her second husband Richard S. Cramer, who adopted her. Zerilda had a son, Levi Edward Cole, by her first marriage. Levi and Zerilda's husband Richard did not get along so Levi went to live with her brother James who ended up adopting him.

In the 1870 census, 10 year old Lottie is living with her Uncle & Aunt/Adopted Parents in New Boston, Mercer County, IL. She is listed as Lotta Cramer; FAM #116: Richard Cramer 44 Farmer; wife Zerrilda 44 keeping house and niece/adopted daughter Lotta Cramer 10.

On Dec 5, 1878 she was married to Charles H "Charley" Saunders, son of Elizabeth (Mannon) & William Saunders. Elizabeth Mannon was the cousin of her biological mother Ellen and niece of her (Aunt) step mother Zerilda.

Charley was anxious to become an actor and had gained some fame as a comedian. The newly married couple didn't stay together long. Lottie came back home by the 1880 census and is found living with her step parents; Richard S. Cramer age 54, Farmer & Zerrilda E. (Mannon) Cramer 54. Twenty year old Lottie is listed as Lotta Cramer age 20, married. The two eventually divorced and Charles continued to tour the world. During his travels he went to Paris, France where he became a foreman in a large theater called The Opera-Comique. It was destroyed by fire on May 25, 1887 in which 200 people lost their lives. No one ever heard from Charley again after the fire, so it is believed he was amoung the unidentified victoms and was was buried in Paris.

Lottie was next married to John Leslie Flake of Galesburg, Illinois. They were united in marriage on Oct 4, 1884 in Illinois. They then moved to Le Roy, Coffey County, Kansas where they had their only child; Erven Leslie Flake, born March 2, 1885.

Lottie's life was cut short when she contracted typhoid malaria and died at the age of 28. She was laid to rest in Le Roy, Kansas.

Her widower went on to marry two more times and have at least one additional child.
