Reverend Dr. Smith was the beloved son of the late Reverend Coley Livingston Smith and Ruby Louise Phillips Smith, passed away Monday, March 12, 2001 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington, NC. Rev. Smith was a retired Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, having served in Korea and Vietnam. He received his bachelor degree and masters degree from UNC-Wilmington, graduated from Southeaster Theological Seminary and received his Doctorate from Southern Baptist School of Biblical Theology. Rev. Smith served as Pastor at Hampstead Baptist Church for seven years. Parkview Baptist Church in Morehead City for nine years, was an evangelist for five and one half years, and served as an interim pastor for two years. He was the loving husband of Annette Brown Smith for forty-five years, father of Gary Livingston Smith and wife Sharon, Elizabeth Diane Smith-Barnes and husband Kenny; Penny Smith (Ronnie) Millis; Michelle Smith (Don) Pardoe, and grandchildren, Kelly D. Barnes, Heather Smith, Jonathan Smith, Christopher Millis, LeAnne Millis, Eric Pardoe, Emily Pardoe Farmer, and Anna Pardoe; five sisters, Bonnie Smith Combs and husband Carl, Becky Smith Dudley and husband Basil, Ann Smith Billups and husband Bob, Peggy Smith Hendricks and husband Larry and Joyce Smith Hayes, and Dr. Julian Heayes. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Karen Elizabeth Pardoe, who is buried next to him, just right of the flagpole. Reverend Smith was a retired Lt. Commander with the United States Navy, a recipient of the Bronze Star and Joint Service Commendation Medal and was buried with full military honors. He is admired and deaply missed.

Cause of death: Complications of heart surgery.
