Mary Elizabeth Almeter
SHELDON - Mary Elizabeth Almeter, 75, a member of St. John Neumann Church in Sheldon, died suddenly Thursday (May 26, 2011) at Buffalo Mercy Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born July 10, 1935, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Paul and Bertha George Almeter.
Mary Liz was a 1953 graduate of East Aurora High School and a 1955 business graduate of Alfred State College. She worked for 25 years at the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corp in Tonawanda as a secretary in the motor department and in 1974 moved to the foundry as secretary to the plant engineers and engineering department; she retired after 25 years in 1980.
Aunt Mary played an important, loving role in the lives of all her nieces and nephews. She took pride in their accomplishments and stood by them when their hearts were broken. She enjoyed spending quality time with each and every one of them and they all knew her love for the color purple.
Mary Liz loved her family, fashion, high style and her new cars. She was dedicated to her faith and had a deep trust in the Lord. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many dear friends.
She is survived by her brothers and sister, Paul J. (Jean) Almeter and Michael N. (Elaine) Almeter of Sheldon and Carol (William) Merkle of Attica; 14 nieces and nephews; 29 great nieces and nephews and a great grand niece. She was predeceased by her two nephews, Tracy and John Almeter.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Attica. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia's site in Sheldon.
