Mr. Dennis was born Oct. 8, 1895, near Holland, Illinois, a son of Andrew and Laura (Devore) Dennis. He married Grace Bartscht in October 1922 in Bloomington. She survives.
Other survivors are a son, Charles W., a daughter Mary Dornback; two sisters, Dorothy Bane and Esta Miller, and six grandchildren.
A son and two brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Dennis was a station agent and telegraph operator for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and formerly operated the Freeport Bus Depot.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Freeport; American Legion Post in Freeport; Evergreen Lodge 170, A.F. & A.M. Freeport and the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. He was a veteran of World War I.
