James William Altom, was a son of William A. Altom who married Mary Isabelle McCraw in 1861, at Columbia County, Arkansas. Making her the step-mother of James William Altom. In 1875 Mary Isabelle Altom 'nee McCraw married Green Washington Dorman, making her the step-mother of Mary Ann Dorman.
