William Asbury Burkhead, former judge of the circuit court here, but during the recent years a practicing attorney in Tulsa, Oklahoma, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Clinkingbeard, in Ava, early Tuesday morning, at the age of 78 years.
Judge Burkhead was stricken with an attack of dropsy about three weeks ago in Tulsa. Mrs. Clinkingbeard from Ava and other members of the family went to Tulsa, and decided to remove him to Ava. He arrived here about ten days ago and gradually grew weaker until the end.

Mr. Burkhead came to Ava in 1888, taught school for a time in the Ava schools, and then began the practice of law, in which profession he was highly successful and widely known.
