Obituary: MYRTLE ELLEN HOGG
Myrtle Ellen Hogg, 94, of Barnes died Saturday, June 22, at Hanover Hospital where she had been hospitalized since June 5, 1968. Myrtle Ellen Garber Hogg was born May 24, 1874 at Sigourney, Iowa, Washington County. She was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Garber. She was a loving and kind mother. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church.
For many years she was a house mother in a boy's dormitory at Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa. She came to Kansas in the early thirties where she spent the rest of her life in the Waterville and Barnes communities. After failing health she spent the last five years with Zella and John Williams.
On November 22, 1897 she was united in marriage to Greene S. Hogg of Endicott, Nebraska. This union was blessed with seven children.
She was proceeded in death by her husband in 1921, two sons, Virgil and James and a daughter Martha Fay.
She is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Alex Scott (Zula) of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. John Williams (Zella) of Barnes, Washington Co., Kansas; Mrs. Edmund Dunn (Helen) of Loveland, Colorado; and Mrs. Paul R. Nelson (Jessmae) of Forest City, Iowa. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Rose Dunn of St. Joseph, Missouri, a brother, Fred Garber of Omaha, Nebraska; four sons-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25, 1968 at 9:00 A.M. in the Barnes Christian Church with Reverend Richard Hicks officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wesche sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Albion Avery accompanist. Casket bearers were: Frank Taplin, Ernest Clark, Jesse Poland, Harold Myers, Edward Wise, and Loren Freeby. Interment was in Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Cherokee Co., Iowa with arrangements by Youngbergs.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Alex Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Scott, Debra, Jeff and Margaret, all of Denver; Mrs. Edmund Dunn, Lovewell, Colorado; Fred Garber of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Ralph Sandford, Beatrice, Nebraska; Mrs. Mary Claggett of Lawrence, Nebraska. Meeting the family at Larrabee, Cherokee Co., Iowa, were a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Nelson of Forest City, Iowa; Mr. Tom Aitkin, George Atkin and Bella Scott of Paulina, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wallace and Mrs. Faye Fleag of Cherokee, Iowa.
