Obituary
A resident of Opelousas, he died at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996, at Opelousas General Hospital. He was 76 and a native of Washington, La. He started the first off-set printed daily newspaper in the United States and possibly the world in Opelousas, which was named The Daily World. Visiting at Sibille Funeral Home, Opelousas, 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, and after noon Tuesday. Religious services at United Methodist Church, Opelousas, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Ted Standley. Interment in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survived by five sons, Ric Thistlethwaite, Opelousas, Barry Thistlethwaite, Dallas, Duncan Thistlethwaite and Geoff Thistlethwaite, both of Opelousas and Scott Thistlethwaite, Thibodaux; two brothers, Hugh Thistlethwaite and Ed Thistlethwaite, both of Opelousas; and seven grandchildren.

Preceded in death by wife, Patricia Ann Norman Thistlethwaite; a brother, Lote Thistlethwaite; and a sister, Dona Thistlethwaite Umland.

He was a member of the Boston Club of New Orleans, board of regent of the Louisiana Universities, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1973, member of Elks Club, Rotary Club, Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Tulane University, former member of Opelousas City Planning Commission, former Yambilee King and former president of the Louisiana Press Association. He was a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award and the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award.
