John Plinney Potter, of West Seattle, passed away July 30, 2012.


John was born in Lamar, MO, to Plinney Lemeul and Mary Ambrosia (Burt)Potter, on April 2, 1924. The first son and sixth born of twelve children.


John enlisted in the US Navy and served in WWII and re-enlisted for The Korean Conflict. In January 1945, John found himself in Seattle, and upon seeing that there was no snow on the ground, decided to stay. John soon met Mary Kenoyer, at the White Center Roller Rink, and the two were married in June 1946.


John started out working for his Dad on the family farm, but was most proud of his time working for the newly remodeled Sea-Tac Airport as an operating engineer.


After retiring from the airport, John spent his leisure time bowling at Highline Lanes, dancing at the White Center Eagles and traveling with his dear friend Lillian Schimmer.


John was preceded in death by his parents; John and Mary, his siblings Mary, Martha, Jessie, Jack and Charles, and his first wife Mary.


John is survived by his siblings; Kate, Sarah, Bert Ruth, Deanne, and Anne; And his four sons; Robert, Donald, Richard (Liz) and Gary (Trish); and his grandchildren; Ryan, Timothy, Christopher, Josh and Angie.


A service will be held for John on Thursday August 9th at 1:00PM at Washington Memorial Park,
