He was born in Rochester, Aug. 13, 1932, the son of John E. and Elizabeth (Manchester) Miller, and attended schools in Vermont.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War, one of seven brothers to serve. During his 20-year career, he was stationed in the U.S., in West Germany and at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon during the Vietnam conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation, Good Conduct Medal and others prior to retiring as M/Sgt. in 1972.
Mr. Miller was an auto mechanic employed at Carey's Auto before operating his own garage for 23 years.
He was a member of West Rutland American Legion Post #87, Rutland Eagles Aerie #101, NCOA, and a life member of VFW Post #684. He was also a member of Rutland Lodge #79 F&AM, East Wallingford Mount Moriah Lodge #96 F&AM, the York and Scottish Rites, as well as a Noble of the Cairo Shriners and member of its Legion of Honor and Mini Cars Parade Unit.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly (Billings), whom he married in 1954 in Rochester; five children, Lois of Rutland, Nancy of Charlotte, Earl of Mount Holly, Norm of Jeffersonville and Ken Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Shirley Boutwell of East Randolph.
He was predeceased by seven brothers and four sisters.
The military and Masonic graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
