Mrs. Ella M. Howard, 88, died in St. Vincent's Nursing Home Sunday. She had been in ill health for the past two years and in the nursing home for the last six years.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Vincent's Nursing Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Canby, Minn. at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Nick Klee, Paul Becker, Reuben Tellinghusen, Albert J. Stern, Otis Bryant and Lawrence Davis.
The rosary will be recited by family and friends at the Hall Funeral Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Howard was born Ella M. Buchanan Jan 11, 1878, in Liverpool, Pa., and attended schools there. In 1898 she moved to Illinois and to Canby, Minn., in 1902. She was married to Louis Scharf Feb 16, 1903, in Grooten, S. D., and the couple moved to Courtland, Minn., in 1905 and to Minneapolis in 1906.
In 1909 they moved to Krem, which was near the present site of Hazen. Her husband died in 1912. She was married to Scott Howard Aug. 15, 1917, in Bismarck and the couple lived in Hazen until moving to Bismarck in 1933. He died in 1941. She attended St. Vincent's Church in the nursing home.
Mrs. Howard leaves two daughters, Sister Norma Scharf, O. S. B., Bismarck, and Mrs. Harry (Edythe) Webb, Dryden, Ontario, Canada; and three sons, Vernon B. Scharf, North Hollywood, Calif.; Louis L. Scharf, Longview, Wash., and Robert M. Howard, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to St. Vincent's Nursing Home.
