Eunice Irene Ventle Whetstone, 85, of Chetopa, died at 8:05 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2012, at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
She was born September 22, 1926, in Oswego, Kansas, to Joseph E. and O'Ava Opal (Woods) Johnston. She grew up in Oswego and was a graduate of Oswego High School. Through the years she was employed by Frank Farris Insurance Agency and the American State Bank, both in Oswego, until retiring in 1987.
At the age of 13, Eunice accepted the Lord as her Savior. She was a former member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chetopa where she served as secretary a number of years and, most recently, had attended the Faith Baptist Church in Chetopa. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, and cooking for her family.
She and Earnest L. Ventle were married June 17, 1946 at Chetopa. He preceded her in death February 27, 1993. On February 12, 1994, she and Ben R. Whetstone were married in Chetopa. He preceded her in death December 15, 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
