Alma was born on September 17, 1873 in Duluth, Minnesota to Christian Weiland and Louise Kegler, who were natives of Germany.

Alma married Andreas Brenner on October 2, 1892 and would have 14 children.

After the death of Andreas in 1923 her sons helped her on the farm. In the 1950's she moved in with her daughter, Evelyn Brenner Swienton, in Thorp. Her last years were spent there. Alma's heart gradually began to give out and she developed a blood clot, which cut off the circulation to her left leg and gangrene set in. A week later, on June 18, 1959, she died at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, Wisconsin. She is buried next to Andreas or Andrew in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thorp.
