Born in Mount Airy, N.C., she was reared there and had resided in Virginia and Georgia prior to coming to West Lafayette in 1921. Her marriage to Dr. Carrick was in 1922 and he died in 1966. He was a Purdue professor in the Department of Animal Sciences.
She received her AB degree from Meridith College in Raleigh, N.C., and taught history, English, French and Latin in Virginia and Georgia high schools. After World War I she taught with the Veterans Administration at Purdue.
Mrs. Carrick was a member of the West Lafayette Reading Club, Mothers Club, Old Hickory Democratic Club, Wabash Democratic Club, the Tippecanoe Democratic Women's Organization. She was also a member of Indiana and Tippecanoe County Association for Retarded Children, Lafayette Symphony Society, Friends of the Library, Purdue Women's Club and the Meridith College Alumni Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Ann Carrick, of West Lafayette; four sisters, Miss Ruth Council, Miss Iris Council and Miss Lois Council all of High Point, N.C., and Mrs. Ralph Asbury of Charlotte, N.C., and one brother, Lawrence Council of High Point.
