Theresa Root, 93, of Canyon died Sunday, March 24, 2002.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Christian Church of Canyon with the Rev. Debra Huffman, pastor, Ken Cargle, former pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Root was born near Wisner, Neb., on May 9, 1908, and moved to Canyon in 1925 with her parents, John and Catharine Albers. She married Milton Eugene "Gene" Root in 1927.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Canyon where she was elected a deacon emeritus in 1997. She sang many years in the choir, served in the Sunday school and held every office in the Christian Women's Fellowship.

She had also been a member of the Canyon Mother-in-Law Club. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968; a son, Clyde Root, in 1989; and a daughter, Nancy Boston Stewart, in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Richardson and husband, Jim, of Amarillo; two sons, Norris Root and wife, Ann, and Harold Root and wife, Wanda, all of Canyon; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 1111 Eighth Ave. in Canyon.

The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church of Canyon, 2011 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79015; or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
