George Abernethy George Franklin Abernethy, 84, of Mooresville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Levin & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. He was born on April 6, 1926 in Cornelius to the late Frank Wilson and Emma Fisher Abernethy.

He was retired from Burlington Industries and later a volunteer at Genesis Eldercare in Mooresville. He was a member of Mt. Mourne Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Shoemaker Abernethy; daughter, Hilda Harrelson; son, Tony Jarman; brothers, Pat Abernethy, Lonnie Aber-nethy; and sister, Jesse Ervin. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Plyler Mc-Hargue Abernethy; sons, George Junior Abernethy of Mooresville, Paul Jar-man of Conover; daughter, Shirley Abernethy and special friend, Larry Drum, of Statesville; stepson, Jim McHargue and wife, Martha, of Stanley; brother, Taylor Abernethy of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Bonnie Cartner and husband, Junior, Sherry Neilson, Robert Neilson Jr and special friend, Amy; step grandchildren, Theresa Lynch, Mike McHargue, Jennifer Beck; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Rev. Lawrence Ownbey and Rev. Tim Hall officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte-Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036.
