He enlisted in the US Navy 7 July 1965 in Indianapolis and received medical training. Upon arriving in Vietnam he was assigned to H & S Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. He was attached as a Corpsman to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. Lloyd died of as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile small arms fire in the vicinity of Houng Hoa District and Hill 881 North and 8 kilometers west northwest of Khe Sanh Airfield, during Operation Beacon Star.
He served his country for 1 year, 9 months and 25 days and was KIA #11,799.
