Salem Humberston, was the son of George & Lydia (Winbrenner) Humberston, born in Frostburg, Allegany County, Maryland on 30 October 1811.. Salem was one of 11 children.
Salem married 10 April 1834 to Catherine Koontz, in Allegany County, by Rev P. McNally

Salem, 39, occupation farmer.
First wife-Catherine Koontz, 30.
Mary, 15; George, 13; Elizabeth, 11; Catherine, 9, H. H., 7; Hester, 3;
Sarah Koontz, 42 and Dorcas Koontz, 5.

Second Wife: Ann Mary Minerva McKenzie
On 29th March 1858, Salem married Ann Mary Minerva McKenzie in Allegany County.
(1st wife Catherine Koontz Humberston was born 23 February 1815 in Allegany County, and died 22 July 1854.)

1860 U.S. Census:
Salem was living in Frostburg in Allegany County, Maryland. The post office was listed as Lonaconing. Salem occupation was still listed as a farmer. It list his second wife, Ann Mary Minerva, 23. The total value of his estate was estimated at $4,784.
Children, Azariah, 14; Esther, 10; Lydia, 2; Emily, 2.
1870 U.S Census:
Salem, 58, and his second family were still living in Frostburg. The value of his estate at this time was estimated at $8,600. It also indicateds that Salem and Ann were unable to read or write.
Ann M., his wife, 32.
Children, from his second marriage, were twin girls, Lydia A, and Emily M. 12.
1880 U.S Census:

Salem, 68, a retired farmer, living on Main St.
Mary M., 41.
Lydia A., 22.
Martha Koontz Hamilton had an Uncle Salem Humbertson who lived on Water Street, Frostburg, Md., according to Mildred Van Horn.

Laura Hamilton Clise remembers her mother talking about Martha's Uncle Salem...had a long white beard, came to visit Martha.

"LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT" in the name of God, Amen,
Salem Humberston, of Allegany County, in the State of Maryland, being in perfect heath of body, and of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death anf the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and therby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say: First and principally buried, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows:
Item, I give and bequeath unto James Salem Oscar Jones, Annie Minerva Jones, and Nillie Caroline Jones, the three children of my daughter, Mariah Emma, now deceased, and unto Mary Martha Williams, and Charles Salem Williams, the two children of my daughter, Lydia Ann, to each the sum of Three Hundred Dollars.
Item, I give and bequeath to Charles Salem Williams, my grandson, named above, my open faced watch, and to James Salem Oscar Jones, my grandson, named above, my Hunting cased watch.
Item, All the rest and residue of my property real, personal, or mixed, of any and every description, whatsoever situated, which I now own or may hereafter acquire, and of which I shall die, seized and possessed, I give, devise and bequeath absolutely and in fee simple, to my wife, Ann Mary Minerva Humberston, her heirs and assigns forever.
Lastly, I declare this to be my last will and testament, revolking and annulling all former wills by me made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament. And I name constitute and appoint my said wife, Ann Mary Minerva Humbertson, executrix of this my last will and testament, and I request that my executrix be not required to give bond for th performance of her duty as such.
In Testimony Wherof, I hereto set my hand and seal this 22nd day of February, in the year 1893.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named testator, Salem Humberston. as and for his last will and testament in the presence of the undersigned, who, in his presence and at his request and in the presence of each other, have hereunto signed our names subscribing witnesses.

Allegany County, to wit:- On the 5th day of April 1898, came George Jones, a son in law of the testator, and made oath in due form of law. that he received the aforegoing last will and testament of Salem Humberston, late of Allegany County, Maryland, deceased, from R. Annan, cashier of the First National Bank of Frostburg, Maryland, in which bank the said will had been filed for safe keeping by the testator during his lifetime. And the said George Jones further made oath that the aforegoing instrument of writing is the true whole last will and testament of the said Salem Humberston, deceased, that hath come to his hands or possession, and that he does not know of any other will and testament of the deceased aforesaid.

Allegany County, to wit: On the 5th day of April, came Thomas Hill, and on the 6th day of April 1898, came George Gunnett, two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament of Salem Humberston, late of Allegany County, deceased, and each made oath in due form of law, that they (in the presence of W. R. Percy, the third subscribing witness thereto now deceased) did see Salem Humberston, the testator, sign and seal said will, that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of his so doin, he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, capable of executing a valid deed or contract, and that they and the said W. R. Percy, respectively subscribed their names as witnesses thereto, at the request of the testator in his presence and all in in the presence of each other.
And on the said 5th day of April 1898, the said Thomas Hill further made oath that he was well acquainted with the said W. R. Percy, one of the witnesses to the said will that he knows that his signature thereto is genuine from the fact that he (the said Thomas Hill) was present and witnessed the said W. R. Percy sign his name as such witness.
