Steven L. Bombard, 54, of Suffield, husband of Carole (Knox-Boulay) Bombard, died Tuesday, (April 10, 2001) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, after a brief but courageous fight against stomach cancer. He was born in Springfield, MA, on November 6, 1946 to the late George Bombard and Marie (Castonguay) Bombard, and moved to Suffield over 23 years ago. He is a communicate of the Sacred Heart Church in Suffield. He was employed by Kinney-Webber & Lowell Insurance Agency for 15 years, before establishing his own agency, North Central Insurance, in 1993 and very recently merged with Levine-Webster Insurance. He volunteered in Suffield with the recreation department coaching softball, soccer, baseball, and basketball. Steve spent many years working with the recreation commission developing the basketball program for girls and boys in grades 5-8 in the 80's. Besides working with the children's recreational leagues he was an avid runner, fisherman and golfer. Steve also enjoyed tennis and ran in several marathons, including the 100th Boston Marathon in 1996. He was a faithful and loving husband and dedicated family man who will be greatly missed by his family. Besides his wife Carole, and his mother Marie, he leaves six children, Joseph Bombard and his wife, Jennifer of Suffield, Todd Bombard of Seoul Korea, Richard Bombard of Portsmouth, NH, Julianne Bombard of Honolulu, HI, Russell Bombard of Suffield, and Elizabeth Bombard of Suffield; two brothers, Clifford Bombard and his wife, Patricia of Hampden, MA, Peter Bombard and his wife, Sandi of Springfield, MA; two sisters, Elaine Frasco and her husband, Robert of Suffield, and Lisa Prattico and her husband, Robert of Holyoke, MA; a very precious granddaughter, Caitlin; and several nieces and nephews. His family and friends may gather on Tuesday, April 17, 9 a.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral home, 443 East St., Suffield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Suffield, with burial in the West Suffield Cemetery.
