GEORGE C. BANFIELD

George C. Banfield, 59, of Hopewell Township, passed away Saturday afternoon in the South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, after an extended illness.

Born in Revloc, Pennsylvania, he lived in Bridgeton since 1969 and before that resided in California.

He initially worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company, but when the plant closed in 1982, he moved to Kimble Glass in Vineland. He retired on a medical disability in 1985.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he saw active duty and received the Purple Heart twice.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy A. (Boscola); a son of Millville; two daughters, one of Rosenhayn and one of Navarre, Florida; a brother and a sister, of Revloc, Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Freitag Funeral Home in Bridgeton. Cremation and inurnment will be in Laurel Lawn Crematory. His ashes will be scattered near his childhood home in Revloc, Pennsylvania.
