Suggested edit: In the 1830’s—two brothers—James Saxton, Jr. and William A. Saxton decided to go into the dry goods business and built “J. & W. SAXTON’S” General Store on the southwest corner of Merchants “diamond” in Huntingdon, PA. (Today in the year 2020 the Saxton brother’s red brick building stands at 514 Penn Street)

As a side business—James Jr. established an extensive coal expediting operation in the northern part of Bedford County. After the H &BT RR was built—a boom town sprung up overnight and the coal business flourished. In 1855—the location of the coal operation was officially named the Borough of Saxton in honor of James Saxton Jr. (William A. moved to Washington, D. C. to work for the Coast Survey Department.) James Jr. marries 3x.
