Caroline Brown Giberson was the daughter of Ralph Kinney Giberson and Mary Elizabeth Ebbett, one of sixteen children. She was born in Bath, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the second wife of Josiah Starbird Hodgdon. They were married 4 February 1893 in Presque Isle, Aroostook, Maine, United States.

Mrs. Caroline B. Hodgdon, a resident of Waldoboro since 1932 and one of its most beloved citizens, died Sunday at the age of 90 after a long illness. Mrs. Hodgdon, widow of Josiah Hodgdon, was born in Bath, New Brunswick on March 17th, 1869, the daughter of Ralph and Mary Ebbett Giberson. She was married in Presque Isle and lived there until 1910 when she was widowed. Her husband ran the Independent, the town's weekly paper, and she helped him in many phased of publishing. Mrs. Hodgdon also was the first telephone operator in Northern town. In 1932 she came to Waldoboro where two of her daughters, Mrs. Frederick G. Payne and Mrs. John H. Miller lives. The paynes wanted her to live with them while he was governor of Main, but Mrs. Hodgdon loved her own Home and neighbors too much to leave. Her 80th birthday, however, was celebrated at Blaine House with her family, grandchildren and over twenty-five friends. This was the first time in many years that the entire family could get together at the same time. She was a frequent visitor at Blaine House during Governor Payne's tenure of office. Besides Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Miller, she is survived by another daughter Mrs. Elbridge Grass of Mars Hill and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Bell and Rachel Davenport of Fielding, N.B.A. Brother, Ransford Giberson also lives in Fielding. Mrs. Hodgdon had eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and Mrs. Payne said "many great-great-grandchildren". Services for this gentle woman were held Tuesday at the Flanders Funeral Home with Rev. Philip G. Palmer and Rev. James Purington officiating. Interment was in German Lutheran Cemetery.
