Rev. Daniel Alexander Lawson Laverty was born at Mechanicsburg PA, May 20, 1824, the son of Patrick and Ann Barbara (Deado) Laverty from Armagh county, Ireland. He married Mary Ann Knisley who was born in Franklin county, PA near Shippensburg, Aug 1, 1829. They married in Shippensburg on March 2, 1848. They had 10 children.

After baptism on the Sabbath, January 1841 in the Trindle Spring near Mechanicsburg he taught school until 1851, although in the fall of 1846 he was licensed to preach by the East Pennsylvania Eldership. From 1861 forward he devoted his entire time to the ministry with appointments in the East Pennsylvania Eldership of the Church of God in Middletown, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Mt Joy, Lancaster and Mechanicsburg.

Rev. Laverty died Dec 23, 1883, while pastor of the Church of God at Mechanicsburg, PA.
