On 2 Feb 2014 A Find A Grave visitor provided the following information:

I have a copy of Mary E. Mathis Mott's death certificate, birth date 2 June 1864 and death date 7 October 1943, Williamson County, Texas. The certificate listed her parents as Haney Mathis and Mary E. Mathis. The informant was Mary E. Mathis Mott's son Ed Mott.

Haney Mathis' full name was Hannaniah William Mathis and he died in Madison County, Texas about 1908. My research has Hannaniah "Haney" Mathis as having three wives (Nancy who died before 1875 in Texas, Elizabeth Powers, then Martha Powers.) The death certificate is I believe incorrect as to the mother of Mary E. Mathis Mott as her mother was Nancy. Nancy died when Mary E. Mathis Mott was a child, so Ed Mott would have known his maternal grandmother as Haney's second wife Elizabeth who actually raised his mother.
