Edgar was born in Hamilton County, Illinois, the son of James Bodine & Susan H. Nation Back. On July 5,1904 he married Matilda Belle Wiggins, the daughter of John Mathaniel & Loussign Nancy Ratcliff Wiggins in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. To this union eleven (11) children were born;
