Married February 25, 1936 in Duncan Oklahoma, Ona Bishop Nickell and Dee Luther Nickell moved to Long Beach California in 1942. Dee retired after 34 years as a certified welder at Harbor Boat Building Company on Terminal Island, and told many fascinating stories of his early days as a welder on Tony Carnero's floating casino, The Lux. He even remembered when it was known as the Bunker Hill.
Ona Bishop Nickell worked for many years at Community Hospital and retired in 1965 to devote time to her hobbies of sewing, quilting and completing a book on the family's history. She hoped to write another book about the early history of Long Beach beyond the three mile limit.
