He was born June 25, 1913, in Mount Pleasant, a son of John Whitmore and Carlotta Nelson Marx.
On Oct. 21 1933, he married Beulah May Beers in Salt Lake City.
He had lived most of his life in the Utah area, living the last 17 years in Leeds, Utah.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
He was self-employed and had operated businesses in St. George and Leeds.
Surviving are his widow of Clearfield, one son and two daughters, Rev. Michael John Marx Sr., Owensboro, KY.; Mrs. John Wayne (Sharron Kay) Barton, Ogden; Mrs. Darrell "Pete" (Patricia Ann) Call, Sunset; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, Kenneth Marx, Salt Lake City; Lamone MiNiel, Las Vegas, Nev.; Lanore Thompson, Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
